Ten years after emigrating to Canada from his birthplace in South England, and
at just 21 years of age, Bob founded a community newspaper in Maple Ridge,
BC. He performed duties in every aspect of the industry as publisher, photographer,
and as manager of sales, production, and circulation. In 1984, he received
the award for ‘best news photograph’ from the BC/Yukon Newspaper
Association.
In
1986, Bob joined Trinity Western University as manager
of the University Press, and in 1990 he started University
Printers Ltd., a commercial printing
company in Langley. He was president of the Chamber of Commerce in 1998 and in 2003 he received the "Business Person of the Year" Award. In 1999, he successfully ran in the civic election for councillor in The Township of Langley and was re-elected for a further six terms. Bob also operates Mainstage Productions, a stage, light,
and sound production company. He has worked in various theatres throughout
North America and has engineered live concerts for many gospel music performers
over the years, including a tour of the USA with Dove and Grammy Award winner,
Steven Curtis Chapman.
Between 2001 and 2016 Bob owned and operated various
restaurants, including Bob's which is still operating in Aldergrove. After selling his restaurants, he decided that he would purchase a home in Princeton on Allison Flats. Sadly the home was heavily damaged in the flood of November 2021, but after a lot of work and effort and help from family, friends, neighbours and the community, his home has been restored. In 2022 Bob made an unsuccessful run for the position of councillor for the Town of Princeton, a community he has grown to love and where he is now enjoying his retirement! |
